The term 'alien' is one of legal art with regards to U.S. immigration and naturalization laws and regulations. A quick and easy description of the term alien as it pertains to U.S. immigration law may be obtained by looking at the statutory language of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). It basically describes the term 'alien' as a person who is neither a U.S..Citizen nor a U.S. national. A politically charged use of the term 'alien' is through a logic deduction, to refer to aliens, simply as non-Americans. Another source of content may be the conflicting description of the term alien with regards to immigration law, as it compares to other bodies of the law. For example, under the tax code, the term 'alien' may be prescribed an altered description than the one given by the INA and related immigration laws.
